Income Tax Assistance
Since 2004, Dear Neighbor Ministries-Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, or VITA, has been filing income tax returns for anyone with an income up to $54,000. VITA works to ensure everyone in the community receives all of the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.
Dear Neighbor Ministries is one of a number of local agencies sponsoring a VITA site from February through April each year. Dear Neighbor Ministries will now be available to file taxes outside of the normal tax season. VITA volunteers are available on Monday mornings between 9 am to noon by appointment only.
VITA at Dear Neighbor Ministries is staffed by trained volunteers. Volunteers must pass an IRS certification test before they can assist taxpayers. They either attend a class conducted by the Internal Revenue Service or complete an online IRS training program to prepare for the test.
Another option, if your maximum AGI is $62,000 and you would like to file your own taxes for free, please visit http://www.myfreetaxes.com through United Way and click the "File for Free" button to begin the process of creating an account.
